Super Bowl Snacks

Everyone loves the Super Bowl, if only for the food and halftime show! Game day eats and snacks are some of my favorites. Bite size and make ahead dishes are easiest. Dips are also a great idea for the Super Bowl. Here are a few ideas from pinterest of what you could make this Super Bowl Sunday.

I will be spending Superbowl Sunday at my in-laws celebrating my father in laws 60th birthday and watching the game! I will be making the pigs in a blanket (per my husband’s request) and a dessert! I haven’t decided what yet, but that popcorn looks amazing. I hope everyone has a wonderful relaxing weekend. Sunday will definitely be an all day cheat meal for me ūüôā

I love wide leg jeans. When they’re paired with wedges they make your legs look really long. I also love that they instantly dress up any outfit. They just feel more sophisticated than skinnies, probably because they’re a closer fit to trousers. Anyway this look is really easily achieved and is very versatile. It would also be cute with a longer pheasant type top! I’m happy to say I’m still completely in love with this coat! Oh my gosh, it just feels so chic to me. And warm without being too hot or bulky.

I also have to mention these lipglosses I have become obsessed with. They’re the color adapting glosses. They go on clear and then adapt to your specific ph levels in your lips to give you the perfect pink! I know the idea is nothing new but I dunno why I never tried it before, but I love them! The one I’m wearing in these photos is by tarte, you can find it here. Another I love is the sephora collection brand, you can find that one here. If I had to pick one I think I would choose the sephora, it feels a bit thicker and is a better price point. But the color it turns my lips is very similar. It’s cool because it’s a custom unique color that is perfect for you!

As much as I love dark colors like greys, burgundy & black in the winter, there is something so fun and girly about pastels in the winter time too. I think it gives us all hope that spring is just around the corner, so I’m down with that! I love this beanie and it is under $4! Amazing quality for the price, I want to buy it in every color! These J Crew sparkly flats were my wedding shoes! I still love them as much as I did on our wedding day, they are so dang comfy. Unfortunately they are no longer sold but I linked a similar light gold pair.

I’m starting to brainstorm ideas for Isla’s first birthday party. Omg, is she really going to be 1 soon? Gah I can’t think about it too long or I will cry. It’s unbelievable how fast time goes once you have a baby. Any cute ideas for a theme? I have one idea in mind that could be cute and easy but we will see. I’ll definitely have to start a pin board! Everyone has been gaga for this J Crew puffer vest since it first came out. Unfortunately it’s sold out. J Crew restocked a few times in the fall but not since then. You can still find them on Ebay & Poshmark, but you’re going to pay an exaggerated price. I got mine 2 seasons ago and have worn it so much. It goes with everything and the herringbone is a fun and easy pattern to mix with. I linked the same one in a different pattern, which is great for spring! These flats by Ugg have sherpa lining in them, so even though there is snow on the ground my feet stayed nice and toasty! Another staple for every girl’s closet is a pair of leopard flats. I have 2 pairs and love them both!

Ok so do you guys watch House of Cards on Netflix? I finished watching Scandal and my friend Katie suggested House of Cards. I just started the second season and things are getting so crazy!!! The first season started out slow, a lot of the plot was built up slowly. Season 3 comes out on Feb. 27th, so I need to watch season 2 before then! I also watch The Bachelor, I know I know, it’s like a train wreck you can’t help but watching. It’s very entertaining though! I’m not a huge fan of Chris, I think he’s a little boring but oh well. I ruined it for myself before the season even started and saw who he picks. So now I’m interested in watching their relationship play out on the show.

I wore this look to Kevin’s company’s holiday party last weekend. I had been searching forever for a burgundy blouse (if you’ve been reading a while you know I love burgundy). I finally found this one with an extra 60% off! It ended up being $16. I seriously love finding things on sale!! The one I linked is even cuter. Anyway I was comfortable all night wearing these black skinnies that have a good amount of stretch to them. But not so much that they fall down, love them. Added a blingy statement necklace and I was good to go.

So these pics were taken a few weeks ago before we went to Hawaii, I totally forgot about them so here they are! This is an easy combo, comfy tee, leopard, and army green. Casual and no fuss. That’s usually the best for running around during the day. Perfect for the weekend too!

I have been wanting to take Isla to story time at the library, the only problem is it’s right in the middle of her naptime… and believe me you do not mess with naptime, haha. So I’m torn. Hopefully the time will change in February to better fit our schedule. I am so ready for spring so we can get out of the house more and go on more walks. The temps haven’t been terrible lately but still I’m excited for warmer weather. Being in Hawaii made me want summer so bad!

I simply can’t believe in 3 short months our little baby is going to be 1! Where has the time gone?! She has grown so much and I just want to stop time and cry and kiss her every minute! I’m a huge sap and I cry a lot. It also marks a year since I left work. It’s really bittersweet. I miss my co-workers and my kids so much but know it would be even harder leaving Isla everyday. We definitely made the right decision for our family but sometimes I wish I could do it all. I am enjoying having some free time on my hands to be back in the blogging world though. This spring I really want to get organized and declutter so be on the lookout for some organizing posts!

Fitness & Healthy eating

Since graduating from college I have gone back and forth between periods of time where I consistently work out and where I consistently don’t. I tend to just fall off the train and never get back on, then kick myself for ever getting off. Before we got married in 2012, Kevin and I both joined Title Boxing Club. It was a little intimidating at first and SO hard. But it was also so much fun and such a good workout! It was something we could do together which was great.¬†We were both going 5x a week sometimes even on Saturday too. On our¬†wedding day I was definitely in the best shape of my life. I continued with it for about a year after we got married… then I got pregnant.

It was the one thing my doctor advised me to stay away from during pregnancy as far as exercise. It’s so high intensity that I didn’t feel like it would be worth it for me to risk anything. It’s also pricey so if you’re not going a lot it’s not worth it. To be 100% honest I didn’t do any physical activity at all my whole pregnancy besides the occasional walk, maybe a little tennis when we were in Florida, nothing intense.

After Isla was born, I put off working out even after I was cleared for exercise at my 6 week postpartum appointment. By my 6 week appointment I had lost the 28 pounds I gained with Isla. You’re probably thinking that it’s so unfair because I didn’t do anything to try and lose the weight! Well I don’t know what to tell you except I think my genes and breastfeeding helped a TON. And just because I lost the weight does not mean my body looked the same as before. My stomach was no where near what I wanted it to be.

I finally got back in the workout game around the end of June. I did Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred. It’s super boring and repetitive but it’s something I can do at home with Isla playing on the floor next to me and it’s only 20 minutes! I just started with it again and forgot how good it feels to workout everyday. I am going to try and stick with it as long as I can. Definitely for the 30 days but hopefully longer. If you have never tried this and are one of those people that don’t want to pay for a gym or don’t have time or are just intimidated by working out, give it a try! It’s only $10.

As far as healthy eating goes, well the Holidays really screwed me (and I think everyone else). I did the Whole 30¬†program in October and after that ate whatever I wanted. Whole 30 was really hard, it’s a TON of prep. If you aren’t prepared to follow through with it on a daily basis you will fail. I definitely lost some weight and felt good about myself but it really wasn’t a realistic everyday option for me. I like yogurt and oatmeal for breakfast so that was the first sign it was going to be hard. I really wanted to do it to see if I could. To see if I really had the willpower to stick to something I said I would. I also wanted to kick my sugar addiction. It’s basically a paleo diet on crack. The idea of it is that you don’t eat any added sugar to reset your body not to crave it. I hate to say my sugar craving is still very real. A lot of people swear by Whole 30 and say they are changed people after it. I didn’t have drastic results like that but it’s worth looking into if you’ve never heard of it before.

Now I’m into making green smoothies, preparing fish or some protein and veggies for dinner, cutting back on bread and other carbs, and trying to have a light lunch with a few healthy snacks throughout the day like an apple with homemade almond butter (have you ever made homemade nut butter? My food processor almost died¬†in the process!). I have only been doing this for about a week and a half since we got back from Hawaii but already feel different and better. I also know swimsuit season is coming up and I want to be that mom at the pool rocking a bikini again! In Hawaii I didn’t feel quite there yet.
